ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS

Andamans The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located in the east of the Indian mainland, float in splendid isolation in the Bay of Bengal. Once a hill range extending from Myanmar to Indonesia, these picturesque undulating islands, islets numbering around 556, are covered with dense damp and evergreen forests and endless varieties of exotic flora and fauna. Most of these islands are in the Andaman Group, 24 of which are inhabited. In the Nicobar group 13 islands are inhabited. The Andaman and Nicobars are separated by the Ten Degree Channel which is 150 Kms. wide. These islands also boast of freedom fighting days, historically significant landmarks viz. Cellular Jail, Ross Island, Viper Island, Hopetown and Mount Harriet. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been declared as two of the 218 endemic bird area of the world. As many as 280 species and sub-species of birds have been reported existing in these islands, 105 of them being endemic. The Andaman Wood Pigeon, Andaman Padauk and Dugong are declared as State Bird, State Tree and State Animal respectively. There are about 96 Wildlife Sanctuaries, nine National Parks and one Biosphere Reserve in the islands. These islands are blessed with the bounties of both south-west and north-east monsoons. Best Time To Visit Andaman Islands Vist thourghout the year Andaman has a moderate temperature all through out the year within the range of 23°C to 31°C. It has a tropical climate. There are no severe climate conditions except for tropical storms and rains in late summers and monsoons. Summers -March to May- are warm but pleasant with sea breeze and have humidity level about 80%. It is suitable for all kinds of tourist activities. Monsoon season is also recommended for visit to Andaman & Nicobar Islands as tourist can have more options both indoors and outdoors. There is no water logging or traffic jams. The lush green vegetation and scenic beauty of the islands are more predominant in monsoon. Monsoons -May to August- and Post Monsoons -September to November- accompany medium to heavy rainfalls. Hoteliers in Andamans offer attractive discounts during monsoon seasons. Winters -December to February- are not chilly and ideal for sight seeing. PORTBLAIR

Port Blair officially named Sri Vijaya Puram, is the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India in the Bay of Bengal. It is also the local administrative sub-division of the islands, the headquarters for the district of South Andaman, and the territory\'s only notified town.

Port Blair is the entry point for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is connected with mainland India by both air and sea. It is a two to three-hour flight from mainland India to Port Blair\'s Veer Savarkar International Airport and three to four days by sea to reach Kolkata, Chennai, or Visakhapatnam from Haddo Wharf in the city. It is home to several museums and the major naval base INS Jarawa of the Indian Navy, along with sea and air bases of the Indian Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Police, Andaman and Nicobar Command, the first integrated tri-command between the Indian Armed Forces, Indian Air Force and the navy. 

The historic Cellular Jail is in the city, and nearby small islands such as Corbyn\'s Cove, Wandoor, Ross Island and Viper Island were once home to British colonists. The city was named after Captain Archibald Blair, a British colonial navy official of the East India Company. On 13 September 2024, the Government of India renamed the city to Sri Vijaya Puram. 

Sir Hugh Rose Island

Sir Hugh Rose Island, or Rose Island, sometimes called Little Neill Island, is an uninhabited island of the Andaman Islands. It belongs to the South Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The island lies 40 km (25 mi) northeast of Port Blair.

It belongs to the South Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.[6] The island lies 40 km (25 mi) northeast of Port Blair.

NEIL ISLAND

Neil Island, officially named Shaheed Dweep (transl. Martyr\'s Island), is an island of the Andaman Islands, located in Ritchie\'s Archipelago.

Neil Island is one of India’s Andaman Islands, in the Bay of Bengal. Bharatpur Beach has coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. Laxmanpur Beach is known for its sunset views. Howrah Bridge is a natural rock formation accessible at low tide. Near the island’s wharf is Neil Kendra village, with a curving, sandy bay dotted with boats. Off the southeast coast, the tiny Sir Hugh Rose Island is a sanctuary for turtles
